Abstract

The fuel cell system is one of the leading clean energy technologies which the interests in its applications are increasing. Since reliability and availability are important indicators to evaluate systems and equipment performance, in this paper reliability and availability of the direct methanol fuel cell is calculated based on the Markov chain approach. For this purpose, after determining the failure rate of each component of the system, the reliability is calculated as a function of time. Also, the Markov chain and simulation in the RAM commander software results indicate that the direct methanol fuel cell is available more than 99 percent of the time. Finally, it was found that the system was 96 percent of the time at full capacity, more than 3 percent at half capacity and less than 1 percent inactive.
