Given the limited reserves of fossil fuels in the world today, we can no longer rely on these energy sources alone. There are several grounds put into question the increasing reliance on fossil fuels in Iran: steady growth of energy consumption, investment inseparability of fossil fuels, limited financial resources, high water intensity in developing fossil fuels and in particular in the course of their conversion into electricity, the country's low resilience due to the intense concentration of production and refining platforms and oil and gas transmission and distribution networks, low labor intensity of fossil energies along with severe pollution following their consumption. This have made the country's shift towards renewable energy inevitable. However, despite these facts and the emphasis from policy makers and upper hand policies (which stipulates that the share of renewable energies in the electricity supply must reach at least 5% till 2021) the share of the renewables in the total energy supply of the country is still very low and far behind the plans. In this paper, employing an evidence-based method, it is shown that developing renewable energies in Iran, is not any longer a choice amongst several choices, rather, it has become an inevitable policy. همواره در روند رشد و توسعه اقتصادی، از انرژی به عنوان نیروی محرکه‌ای در جهت تسریع این فرآیند نامبرده شده است.  با توجه به ذخایر محدود انرژی‌های فسیلی در جهان فعلی، دیگر نمی‌توان تنها به این منابع انرژی متکی بود؛ از طرفی روند پایدار رشد مصرف انرژی در کشور، محدودیت منابع مالی و تفکیک ناپذیری سرمایه‌گذاری برای توسعه انرژی‌های فسیلی، نیاز بالای آب برای توسعه این نوع انرژی‌ها (به‌ویژه در تبدیل آنها به برق)، آسیب‌پذیری کشور در اثر تمرکز شدید مبادی تولید و پالایش و خطوط انتقال و توزیع نفت و گاز، اشتغال زایی پایین صنایع مرتبط با انرژی‌های فسیلی در کنار آلودگی‌های شدید حاصل از مصرف سوخت‌های فسیلی، همگی مشکلات و چالش‌هایی هستند که ادامه تکیه بر انرژی‌های فسیلی در کشور را زیرسوال برده و حرکت کشور به سمت انرژی‌های تجدیدپذیر را اجتناب ناپذیر کرده است. این در حالی است که علیرغم تاکیدات سیاستی و تکالیف قانونی موجود، همچنان سهم انرژی‌های تجدیدپذیر از کل عرضه انرژی کشور بسیار پایین و عقب تر از برنامه‌های مصوب می‌باشد. در این مقاله با ارایه دلایل و شواهد کمّی نشان داده می‌شود که توسعه انرژی‌های تجدیدپذیر در ایران، دیگر یک انتخاب از میان چندین انتخاب نیست، بلکه در عمل تبدیل به یک ضرورت سیاستی شده است. https://www.jrenew.ir/article_146265_207ee01e1ef28c9c46f633bf452628d9.pdf
